As an affiliate marketer, you receive a coded link in your email or website where once people click on the link, they end up at a business website. It is based on the coded link that the business gets to know which affiliate had brought about the click. Accordingly, the affiliate receives the agreed upon payment and can range from fractions of cents to some cents in PPC.

In the case of PPS advertising, the affiliate is not compensated when visitors just make a click on the coded link. It is only if the visitor buys something does the affiliate get credit. Payment here ranges from a few cents to a few dollars per sale, depending on the rate of the product, and the affiliate agreement.
