Thanks Mark. Certainly some of the other strategies will also bring your site attention from Google quickly and often too, strategies such as commenting on blogs and forums, as well as submitting articles to directories.

I agree Mark. Certainly Social Media does not necessarily apply to all businesses, but there are many niches (and particularly with local businesses) where Social Media can and does work really well.

I agree Roland - people do leave it too late. Someone like Simon can help people put things right, and make a go of it.

An enlightening interview into the world of a business consultant. I love watching business programs like Mary Queen of Shops and The Hotel Inspector. It is always amazing how some business owners are so naive about business.

There will always be work for a good business consultant. Sadly many never call one and the business goes bust! If your business is struggling call Simon now! And before you ask. I am not paid to say that!

Yes, despite the popularity of the internet there are still many businesses who do not utilise it, and of course something like social media is free, and so should be heavily considered, especially on a local level.

Unfortunately I see too many SMEs copying the larger companies, who in my opinion rely on what I call "institutional marketing" - tv adverts and the like that are designed to merely build a brand (for the good that does!), instead of using results orientated, measurable marketing strategies where they will know their ROI.

Good points Roland, as like all forms of marketing there is no reason why it should not work for all businesses. As usual it is about fishing where the fish are, and these days many frequent the social networking sites.

I believe that Social Media can work for any business but to lesser or greater degrees. For some the effects will be slight but still beneficial for others they could get 100% of their business (and some do!). A very good article thanks.
